The Encounter

The Encounter

I am thrilled to share with you my artwork, entitled "The Encounter." This four-panel piece presented in a pop art style was my winning portfolio for the "Professional Photographer of the Year" in Melbourne, Australia back in 1972. What makes this artwork unique is that it was created without using a camera.

The image showcases two facing profiles that, when combined, create the illusion of a vase or chalice between them. This figure-ground illusion plays with perception, as the positive and negative spaces interact to create a dynamic and intriguing visual experience. The bold colors and sharp contrasts used in each panel highlight the duality of the images, adding depth and complexity to the overall composition.

Each panel features a different color scheme, with combinations of red and yellow, green and white, dark and light blue, and yellow and blue. This variation in colors adds to the overall impact of the artwork, creating a sense of movement and energy that draws the viewer in.

I am incredibly proud of "The Encounter" and the way it pushes the boundaries of traditional photography. By experimenting with figure-ground illusions and bold colors, I was able to create a visually captivating piece that challenges the way we perceive and interact with art.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my latest creation. I hope you find as much joy and fascination in "The Encounter" as I did in creating it.

Warm regards,
Victor Minca
